The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

This year is The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. A special occasion as Her Majesty will be the first British monarch to have reached such a milestone.

While there are several national activities taking place throughout the year, Buckingham Palace is also keen that communities get involved in joining in the celebrations.

On this page, you will find useful information to help you take part in the celebrations with friends, family, neighbours and your wider community.

You can find out more about the Platinum Jubilee and national celebrations on the official website.

The Queen’s Green Canopy

Everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates are being encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees for the jubilee.

Trees are available to individuals and community groups free of charge from the Woodland Trust, as well as to parish and town councils.

If you decide to plant a tree (or trees) for the jubilee then we would like you to consider what you plant and where. Planting the right tree in the right place will maximise the benefits of tree planting including enhanced biodiversity, wildlife habitats and carbon capture.

We have produced a checklist of things for you to consider when planting trees (opens in new window).

If you need more help or advice, then the Woodland Trust will be happy to discuss your scheme with you.

We will be playing our part with our own jubilee planting schemes. We hope to be able to make announcements about some of those soon.

Visit the Woodland Trust website (opens in new window).

Beacon lighting

There is an ambition to light 1,500 beacons across the UK on 2 June. You can read the guide on how to register to light a beacon (opens in new window) to see if and how you can take part.

Street parties

Our residents love getting together for a street party to celebrate big national events and we would like to see as many of you do so again for the Platinum Jubilee.

The main Jubilee celebration weekend will be Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June, with Thursday and Friday being bank holidays.

Advice on how to host a street party can be found on our street party guidance page or read the Government’s guide to hosting a street party (opens in new window).

Tell us about your Platinum Jubilee event

If you are planning to hold an event in your town or parish then please send us the following details:

  • Name of event
  • Time and date
  • Is it free to enter?
  • Where it is
  • A brief description of the event
  • Contact details of the organiser

Please email the the event details to our Community Services Team.

You can also add your event to the national Platinum Jubilee web page (opens in new window)

Road closure notices

To help our residents celebrate the jubilee, we won’t be charging people for road closure applications for events held over the main jubilee weekend in June 2022.

If a road closure notice is needed people will still need to apply and they are advised to do so in good time but at least six weeks before the event. Not all events need a road closure though.

Apply for a road closure notice.

The Big Jubilee Lunch

The nation is invited to come together for a cuppa over the fence, a picnic in the park or a larger organised event on Sunday, 5 June.

Find out more about The Big Jubilee Lunch (opens in new window)

Funding for Platinum Jubilee events

If you or a community group needs help funding an event, then there is information on funding available for Platinum Jubilee events (opens in new window) on the website.

Use of The Platinum Jubilee Emblem

A special emblem has been designed for use by people organising and promoting events for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. There are guidelines to follow.
