Update from Severn Trent Water on planned emergency works on Stourport Bridge next week (July 5 and 6 2021)
/in News/by RogerUpdate from Severn Trent Water on planned emergency works on Stourport Bridge next week (July 5 and 6 2021)
Published Thursday, 1st July 2021Statement released by Severn Trent Water in regards to works on the Stourport Bridge for two days next week, Monday (5 July) and Tuesday (6 July).
To allow for emergency sewer repairs to continue, we will be closing the bridge leading into Stourport on the A451 for two days next week, Monday (5 July) and Tuesday (6 July).
The bridge will be closed for two days, from 7am Monday 5th to late Tuesday 6th July
Pedestrians will still be able to cross the bridge on foot.
We know this might cause disruption, and we’d like to apologise if it does, but this is emergency work and the closure of the bridge will allow for the teams to safely make the repairs needed to fix the sewer, while keeping everyone else safe.
We’ve worked closely with the local council on the closure, and will be providing a fully sign posted diversion, and while the bridge will still be available for pedestrians to use, anyone travelling by vehicle and uses this route may want to plan ahead for their journeys to avoid any issues.
Again, we’re incredibly sorry for the issues caused, and want to thank everyone for their patience while we work on this complicated repair. It is our absolute priority to carry out the repair as quickly and as safely as possible, with a view of opening the bridge and getting everything back to normal as soon as we can.

Stanley Baldwin Memorial
/in News/by RogerWe are pleased to report that The Baldwin Memorial in Astley has been cleaned.
Astley and Dunley Parish Council took over as trustees of The Baldwin Memorial from the Tomkinson family in 1989. We have taken advice on several occasions with regard to cleaning but were advised by conservationists, listed building experts and a stonemason that due to the porous condition of the sandstone, also the closeness to the highway and pollution from vehicles we should not attempt to clean, other than perhaps with a very soft brush and warm water.
We were approached a while ago by Bewdley Civic Society who are also interested and have connections with the Baldwin family. They offered to pay for a gentle clean as stated, this was due to have happened during 2020 but due to COVID-19 this was delayed.
You may have seen – The Baldwin Memorial has now been cleaned – by the approved stonemason – and funded by Bewdley Civic Society.
May we extend our thanks to Richard Perrin and Bewdley Civic Society, the result is excellent.

About Being A Councillor
Are you passionate about your community? Do you want to help make a long-lasting change? Do you have innovative ideas for the council? Do you have concerns about a specific issue and want to do something about it? If this is you, then we need you. We need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect their community to put themselves forward for election. Make a change and become a councillor.
Here, you will find everything you need to know. We explain what local councils and councillors do, how you can become a councillor, details of the role and what to expect, and for local councils a range of resources to help recruit candidates.
WHAT DO LOCAL COUNCILS AND COUNCILLORS DO?
Local (parish and town) councils and councillors make a massive difference to the quality of life of local people. They are passionate about their communities and seek to make a change to help improve the lives of their residents.
Local councils run numerous services, depending on the size of the council. Many you will see day-to-day, but some are less known. These include introducing solar panels, setting up dementia-friendly groups, organising community buses, creating neighbourhood plans, implementing suitable housing, establishing youth projects, managing allotments and open spaces, maintaining footpaths, public seating and litter bins.
Councillors are elected to represent the local community, so you must either live or work in the council area. Becoming a councillor is a rewarding experience as you will be in a position to make a change in your community to help improve the lives of residents. A councillor’s role can include responsibilities such as developing strategies and plans for the area, helping with problems and ideas, representing the community, working with other local community groups, decision making and reviewing decisions and talking to the community about their needs and about what the council is doing.
A vacancy to be a Parish councillor has arisen due to the retirement of John Armstrong.
