Stanley Baldwin Memorial
We are pleased to report that The Baldwin Memorial in Astley has been cleaned.
Astley and Dunley Parish Council took over as trustees of The Baldwin Memorial from the Tomkinson family in 1989. We have taken advice on several occasions with regard to cleaning but were advised by conservationists, listed building experts and a stonemason that due to the porous condition of the sandstone, also the closeness to the highway and pollution from vehicles we should not attempt to clean, other than perhaps with a very soft brush and warm water.
We were approached a while ago by Bewdley Civic Society who are also interested and have connections with the Baldwin family. They offered to pay for a gentle clean as stated, this was due to have happened during 2020 but due to COVID-19 this was delayed.
You may have seen – The Baldwin Memorial has now been cleaned – by the approved stonemason – and funded by Bewdley Civic Society.
May we extend our thanks to Richard Perrin and Bewdley Civic Society, the result is excellent.
